Design
From a strong fascination for the material (old oak from the Venetian “briccole”) the shapes of Paradigma came into being. Not a fix volume, but something fluctuating. Its elements, in constant move from submerged to surface level, catch the light and give back the nature of wood, of its inhabitants, of work, of the passing time and water. Pure metal, without any kind of finish, reinforces the whole image and inspires touch.
Everything started from the need to revalue the great craftsman skills of the south Verona district. The idea was to retrieve beautiful yet unsold items from furniture stocks in the area and reinvent them with a little bit of irony. Thus defining objects that hold values from the past and, at the same time, throw them in the present playfully, changing in function and transforming styles. Clear, defined features and pastel colours, almost like a smooth, elegant walk.
Comb results from the combination of different materials, shapes, joints and finishes. In a light play of empty and full, the empty elements work as a physical support while standing out in a sky of depths/containers changing in the distance. Comb allows an infinite development of arrangements both vertically or horizontally.
Also in this project, what we did was to recover material and theoretical elements of the so-called “classic” style of the furniture masters in South Verona. In a functional and pleasant attitude, we literally re-worked them, using the concept of “trace”: “strong” signs leave marks, footprints that lead us and reassure with their familiarity.
The art of handmade carving on wood is beyond time. It tells a story, stimulates touch. Re-discovered and re-used materials, filled with endless shades and veinings, talk about the past, about consistency and warmness. Simple lines assemble finishes and essences, which are apparently in contrast. A collection encouraging us to compose and mix up.
